Farid, also known as Aurangzeb, was beaten to death in Aligarh on 18 June 2024 after being accused of theft. Police announced six arrests the following day. The assault occurred in the Mamu Bhanja area and was captured in video material examined during the investigation.

His family disputed the theft allegation and sought action over his killing. Later in June, police also registered a complaint alleging dacoity against Farid and others, based on a separate account from the other side. Registering that complaint did not prove the allegation or erase the murder investigation.
