Cattle transporter Idrees Pasha and two companions were intercepted in Sathnur, Ramanagara district, on 31 March 2023. Pasha was found dead the following day. His brother accused Puneeth Kerehalli and associates of murder.

On 16 May 2023, the Karnataka High Court granted bail to Kerehalli and four others. They had been arrested in Rajasthan on 5 April after complaints arising from the confrontation.

The court questioned discrepancies between the complaints and the strength of the preliminary evidence connecting Kerehalli to the death. The order discussed abrasions and the then-pending determination of the cause of death. These were bail-stage observations.
