A ₹700 crore depot for maintaining WAG-12 freight locomotives formed a major part of the package. The Kavach train protection system was introduced on the Sabarmati–Kalol–Sabarmati section at a cost of ₹48 crore, adding a safety component to the infrastructure programme.

Work also began to install Kavach on the Ahmedabad–Palanpur and Ahmedabad–Samakhiali sections and to double the Sabarmati–Sarkhej line. Those projects extend the programme beyond the train launch, addressing freight locomotive servicing, train protection and the capacity of a railway connection within the Ahmedabad area.
